Technical Q&A DV03
ANSI SCSI Standards

Q: What ANSI standards are imposed on Apple SCSI peripherals?

A: All currently shipping Macintosh computers support the ANSI SCSI Standard, with the following exceptions:

  1. PowerBook computers do not provide terminator power (to save battery life).

  2. Some older systems (prior to the Mac IIci) do not handle power-on conditions properly. This means that the drive must be jumpered or configured to suppress the "Check Condition/Bus Reset" status code on power-on.

Many Macs do not support a number of recent SCSI performance enhancements, such as disconnect/reselect and fast-synchronous transfers. The Developer Notes folder on the Developer CD specifies what is supported by each system.
